ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE
NORTH V SOUTH - MAKEUP OF OPENS FOR 2008
AT THE DELEGATES MEETING IN OCTOBER IT WAS PASSED THAT THE OPEN’S FOR 2008 BE RUN ON THE 4 GRADES SYSTEM AS PER THE 2007 POINTS SCORE. THEREFORE ALL OPEN’S GRADES IN 2008 WILL BE ;
A GRADE 0-6, A1 GRADE 7-12, B GRADE 13-19 AND C GRADE 20-27.
THERE WAS CONSDERABLE DISCUSSION REGARDING MAKING SOME CHANGES TO THE HADICAPS IN THE GRADES BUT IT WAS RESOLVED TO KEEP THEM AS THEY WERE.
WE NEED EVERYBODY TO GET BEHIND THIS NEW AND EXCITING CONCEPT AS THE INAGURAL NORTH VERSUS SOUTH EVEBT WAS A RESOUNDING SUCCESS. IT WAS A GREAT WEEKEND AS A FINALISATION OF THE YEARS EVENTS AND ALL WHO TOOK PART COMMENTED ON WHAT A GREAT TIME IT WAS AND THE BEST $10.00 THEY HAD EVER SPENT.
SO GUYS IT IS OUT THERE FOR YOU ALL NEXT YEAR AND LETS GET MORE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THE EVENT AND MAKE IT SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO AS WELL AS ANOTHER MAJOR EVENT ON OUR PROGRAM.
2007
The Executive of the NQGA has been considering some alterations to representative events for the 2007 year, and present the following for consideration.
A North -v- South competition is being considered. The suggested format as follows.
Division of the NQGA District Association into two separate Divisions. NORTH - SOUTH
The Northern Division would consist of; The Southern Division would consist of;
Townsville Mackay
Willows Pioneer Valley
Rowes Bay Proserpine
Ayr Laguna Whitsundays
Ingham Sarina
Charters Towers Black Springs
Mystic Sands Glenden
Magnetic Island Bowen
Lavarack Collinsville
Home Hill
Total = 10 Total = 9.
That there be four teams from each Division. That the teams consist of six (6) players in each team.
That the teams be made up as follows-
A grade - handicap 0 -6. A1 grade - handicap 7 -12.
B grade - handicap 13 -19. C grade - handicap 20 -27.
The Executive believe that this format would encourage more of the players in the forgotten zone (back end of A grade) to take part in the competition, and perhaps discourage handicap cheats who seem to loiter around the A to B grade handicap cutoff point.
However, for this format to work, all clubs would have to reformat their gradings at club Open events to the following;
A grade 0 -12, B grade 13 -19, C grade 20 - 27.
or alternatively, if clubs wished to have a fourth grade at the Open,
A grade 0 -6, A1 grade 7 - 12 B grade 13 -19, C grade 20 - 27.
Representative teams for each Division would be picked from the A-B-C Trophy Points table, with points scoring remaining the same as for 2006.
That teams play scratch match play in A gr. & A1 gr., and handicap match play in B & C grades.
That teams play two games – one on Saturday PM and one on the Sunday AM.
That the games be a fourball aggregate stableford matchplay on Saturday and a single stroke matchplay Sunday.
That each team play for an individual flag, four in total.
That the teams play for an Overall Shield. (Shield donated by Dave Morrison & Dale Nofz.)
Players wishing to be considered for any representative team would have to pay a Registration Fee set at $10.00.
All rules re eligibility/disqualification would remain the same as for 2006.
The teams picked play each other on an annual basis at an 18 hole course in the Southern Division one year, and the Northern Division the next year.
That the event be played on the first weekend of October every year. In conjunction with this event, the end of year Delegates meeting to be held on the Saturday night.
The NQGA to be responsible for the following costs;
Green Fees at $10.00 per player per game.
BBQ at the host club on the Saturday night to the value of $10.00 per head.
Provision of flags and engraving on shield.
NQGA not responsible for;
Team shirts.
Accommodation.
Other meals and incidentals.
OTHER PROPOSALS
In line with the above proposal, the NQGA will continue with the A grade matchplay format at Laguna Whitsundays, run along the same lines as the 2006 competition, with a contribution from those players participating.
The event will be played on the third weekend of September every year.
The A Grade Pennants be played on the fourth weekend of September each year.
The NQGA is also considering an event for B & C graders to be played at the same time as the A graders are playing the matchplay at Laguna Whitsundays, ie., the third weekend of September.
The format will probably be a single stableford event, with one game on the Saturday PM, and the other on the Sunday AM, with winners, runners up, etc.
It is envisaged that the competitors would be selected from the leading players on the trophy points table in B & C grade, and that the teams would consist of ten (10) players per team – total of 20 players.
The NQGA would pay the following costs associated with this event.
Green Fees at $10.00 per player per game.
Accommodation expenses for out of town players.
If any interested persons wish to expand on any of these concepts, please feel free to do so, as the NQGA would welcome your input.

Delegates meeting - 11.6.06.
At the Delegates Meeting held at Laguna Whitsundays on Sunday 11th June 2006, it was decided that the 2007 NQ Open would be held at Laguna, and that the NQ Open would be held at that venue on a long term basis.
It was also decided at that meeting that as 11.6.06, there would be no restriction on competitors in NQGA pennants events riding in motorised buggies.
Delegates meeting - 7.3.06.
At the Delegates meeting held after the AGM in Bowen on Sunday 5th March 2006, it was agreed in principle that the top 16 players available from the Graham Roberts 'A' Grade Trophy Points scores after the Proserpine Open, would compete for the North Queensland Matchplay Championships at the Laguna Whitsundays Turtle Point course, on the weekend of the 16th/17th September, 2006.
The event would be conducted over 72 holes, with the winners and losers of individual matches progressing through to championship, consolation and flight finals, played on Sunday afternoon.
Whilst the logistics of the event have not yet been finalised, the NQGA will be responsible for the majority, if not all, of the expenses associated with accommodation and course hire.
Only those players who have registered to compete for Graham Roberts Trophy Points will be considered.
Delegates meeting - 4.12.05.
At the Delegates Meeting held in Bowen on Sunday 4th December, 2005, the following amendment was approved.
In the annual clash with FNQ, the top ten (10) available ‘A’ grade place getters from the Graham Roberts Trophy Points, the top six (6) 'B' grade place getters in the Wayne Haller Trophy Points, and the top six (6) 'C' grade place getters in the John Maclean Trophy Points, who meet the selection criteria as outlined elsewhere in this Match Schedule, will be selected to represent the NQGA.
Players who wish to compete for trophy points at Open events in 2006, with a view to seeking representative honours, are to pay a $20.00 to NQGA to register their interest.
The fee can be paid at any time during the year to the Secretary NQGA, with players receiving trophy points in their respective grades, only after they have paid the fee.
