SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2006

This event saw the top sixteen ‘A’ grade golfers on the Trophy Points list in the North Queensland District Golf Association, competing for the matchplay title over the weekend. All players played four rounds of single matchplay over the two days of the weekend, with winners and losers progressing through to the finals of the Championship, Consolation, and Flight events. All players were impressed with the format of the event, a first for golf in the North Queensland area.

In the Championship final, Matt Spilsbury proved too strong for Nathan Cole, also from Mackay, whilst Michael Dunn, a Junior player from Black Springs, showed he has enormous potential, winning the Consolation final after succumbing to the vastly experienced Damian Haupt in the first round. Damian himself was beaten by Nathan Cole in the semi final, but was too strong for Dale Nofz in the Flight 1 final.
Other Flight winners were Bruce Amor - Flight 2, Scott Hendry - Flight 3, Simon Ruthenberg - Flight 4, Calvin Buckton - Flight 5, and Adrian Jackson - Flight 6.
Except for a strong breeze over both days, the weather was perfect for golf, with the Turtle Point course presented in top condition, earning praise from all competitors.
The Townsville A grade pennant team which was undefeated in winning the Division I Pennants conducted at Townsville Golf Club on Sat/Sun 23/24 October.
